Report from Trainfest 2017

America’s largest operating Model Railroad Show was held in Milwaukee November 11 and 12 this year.  The show was very well attended by model train enthusiasts, families, and hobbyists, as well as major manufacturers and hobby shops.

Just a small sampling of some of the product highlights included:

  • A new wireless throttle, command station and power supply from ESU/ Loksound that is powered by the Android OS and is very configurable (soft keys, buttons and icons for all functions), powerful (control was maintained from over 100 feet away in the crowded convention center) and expandable (up to 32 controllers, 16000 locomotives…).
  • N-scale motive power and rolling stock continues to be developed and produced from a plethora of manufacturers including Broadway Limited (steam locomotives), Kato (trains) Rapido (passenger cars) and Scale Trains (freight cars and locos).
  • Layout Control System products from Walthers (switch machine controllers, a distribution block, facia elements and all the associated cabling).  More importantly, Walthers has developed instructional videos that show each step in installation.
  • Soundtraxx presented new diesel and turbine  decoders with great sound effects (especially in the base range) using multiple ‘sugar cube’ speakers in the installations.

For more information on these and other new products swing by the ‘Stop and ask one of our staff.
