Athearn presents their redux of Amtrak’s AMD103/P42 locomotives.  These units come in the new Heritage and Phase V color schemes.  Models are DCC quick plug ready.  $129.00

Trains sets have arrived at the ‘Stop.

Everyone remembers that first train set, the one that got most of us into the model railroading hobby…

Whether it was a Lionel circle around the Christmas tree or the HO scale oval on a table, our first ‘taste’ of an electric train that we could control opened our eyes to all the possibilities that make up our current layout ’empires’ today.

Lionel and Athearn continue that tradition with sets that are full of the latest features in the industry at prices that are a great bargain.

The Athearn HO scale ‘Iron Horse’ set includes an EMD GP50 locomotive, three freight cars and a caboose.  Though the set has a DC power pack, the loco is DCC ready (a plug in decoder).  Liveries include Alaska, CPR, UP and BNSF.  Bachmann’s EZtrack completes the oval. $209.

Lionel trainsets come in a wide variety: steam, diesel, US and European, modern and old timers, as well as several popular themes (Disney, Thomas, etc.).  All of the steam locomotives have smoke and/or a whistle, bell.  Mid-priced sets have train or rail sounds.  Most of today’s sets use the ‘Lionchief’ remote control module that is keyed to the engine and very easy to operate.  Fastrack sections connect and disconnect quickly and work well on carpet.  Sets start at approximately $200.
